Protocols

Next-Step Protocol

Purpose

The objective of this protocol is to ensure that the University provides resources for the current students

and the newly graduated students to enter the labor market.

Scope

This is an administrative protocol, affecting all students and staff of the University.

Referenced Laws, Regulations, and/or Policies

This is the University protocol.

Protocol

It is important for students not only to study and equip themselves with skills and knowledge in their

preferred fields of study but also to be able to apply those skills and successfully join a labor market

upon graduation. College graduates these days face a lot of challenges amidst rapid technological

changes and shifts, and the job market’s demands change quickly from year to year. The University will

provide resources and workshops to prepare current and newly graduated students (who have received

their university degree within 12 months) so that they are introduced to further employment

opportunities.

Services

Next-Step Events

The Unit of Student Support Services, Office of Admissions and Student Affairs and the Unit of Alumni

Relations, Office of Institutional Advancement will provide next-step events for career services and

outreach for current students and graduates. The career services will include consultation service and

workshops to assist with writing resumes and cover letters, preparing for job interviews. The Office will

also share job and internship opportunities online and invite companies and organizations to share

employment opportunities with students.

Guest Speaker Sessions

Guest speakers who are in senior-management teams of various organizations and companies

will be invited to share their experiences and insights with students. These sessions will provide

students with a better understanding of the fields that they want to venture into.

Workshops and Information Sessions

The students will have workshops throughout the academic year to prepare their resumes, CVs,

and cover letters as well as to practice mock interviews. These workshops will be offered to all

students. For students who are interested in further studies and graduate schools, information

sessions on majors and scholarship opportunities from various universities and organizations will

be hosted.

Job Fair

The university-wide career events and job fairs will be hosted where the students can network

with representatives from the international and regional NGO organizations and companies to

better understand career opportunities.

Employment Status Survey

After graduation, graduates will be given survey forms inquiring information regarding their current jobs

or further studies. The survey will collect information on industry field, satisfaction with their jobs,

satisfaction with their education, the relevancy of their field of studies to the career, and salary range.

Knowing the job placements and satisfaction of the graduates, the University can better prepare and

support the current and prospective students in their field of study and career services. This survey will

be done in accordance with the Alumni Relations and Tracking protocol.

Follow-up Methods

With the number of students and the size of the university, the Unit of Alumni Relations, Office of

Institutional Advancement will reach out to the alumni and follow up individually.

Alumni Events

Alumni Events will be a suitable platform to share the survey among the alumni as well as for

alumni relations officers to network with alumni to later follow-up in their messages or calls. The

alumni can update their contact information and share their career updates.

Follow-up Calls

Follow-up calls after graduation will be made, when possible, to understand graduates’

next-step status. As a small University, this approach will provide better connection with alumni

and know their updates in a more effective way.

Emails and Messages

The Unit of Alumni Relations Officers can send monthly or quarterly email updates with the

survey form(s) in addition to the newsletters that the University shares. Alumni may also be more

present on their social media accounts so the officers would also create Facebook group(s) and

LinkedIn accounts for alumni outreach.

Review

The Unit of Student Support Services, Office of Admissions and Student Affairs & Unit of Alumni

Relations, Office of Institutional Advancement are responsible for ensuring compliance with this protocol

in various offices of the University.
