Attendance Policy and Participation Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to set forth Parami University’s directives on attendance and participation.

Scope

This academic policy applies to all students, academic staff, and the administrative staff of the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs of the University.

Referenced Laws, Regulations, and/or Policies

Parami's Attendance and Participation Protocol applies the directives outlined in this Policy.

Compliance/Policy Statement

Compliance statement

Parami University expects all students to fully attend and actively participate in their classes. The University believes that real-time active engagement between the faculty member and students, and between students themselves, is the prerequisite  for quality education.

Attendance is a necessary but not sufficient condition of optimal learning. Faculty members are expected to ensure the attendance and active participation of their students. Attendance and participation are key aspects of the course completion requirements. For detailed guidelines on attendance and participation see the Attendance and Participation Protocol.

Policy Statement

To maintain the rigor and integrity of teaching and learning, the University has set the policy of 90% minimum attendance rate as the threshold. Attendance below 0.90 will trigger a notice of concern. Personal circumstances that affect attendance will be evaluated by the faculty member and administrative staff on a case-by-case basis.

Faculty members should refer to the Attendance and Participation Policy and communicate the importance of attendance and participation to their students in their syllabi and during class time. Faculty members are required to use the roll call attendance tool within the Canvas LMS, which is used to monitor student adherence to the minimum attendance rate of 90%. If a student’s record of attendance is falling below, or at risk of falling below 90% attendance, action shall be taken according to the University’s Attendance and Participation Protocol.

Faculty members are required to work with their Division Chair, the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs in order to maintain records of student attendance and retention.

The Attendance and Participation Protocol provides the conditions and requirements for attendance and participation.

Review
